tales of a debian maintainer

The end of an era: mutt

With today's upload I finally stopped maintaining mutt. When J.H.M. Dassen handed it to me in 1998 it was my first important package, and it has been an interesting challenge for many years.

In the last two years upstream development slowed down and my interests moved towards infrastructural packages, so most of my work as a maintainer was reading bug reports which nobody had the interest to fix and keep rediffing an always growing amount of patches against new CVS snapshots.

In this period I started looking for a co-maintainer with the needed mix of free time and obsession, and after the first volunteers quickly got bored finally Adeodato Simó was brave enough to stick to the job. He has been doing most of the work on mutt for the last year, and I am confident that he will take good care of the package.
