Digest di RIPE 57
Come al solito, ecco gli interventi fatti all'ultimo meeting di RIPE che ho giudicato interessanti.
- Tutorial: Managing Voice Quality in Converged IP Networks at MySpace: introduzione al QoS e ai problemi di rete che influenzano la qualità della voce.
- A Technical Overview of .tel: tentativi estremi di trovare nuovi business model per giustificare la creazione di nuovi TLD. O anche "per chi ha un martello, ogni problema è un chiodo". Una soluzione complicata a un problema non chiaro.
- A+P Address Hack - The Revenge of the Stupid Core: una nuova tecnologia di transizione a IPv6 per reti di accesso. Mi piace abbastanza, ma ci sono problemi da chiarire tipo come fare il provisioning degli A+P a ogni CPE.
- Design and Deployment Experiences with the New DE-CIX Infrastructure: DWDM e switch ottici.
- Emirates Internet Exchange (EMIX) Current Status and How we see the Future: il finto internet exchange degli UAE. Un carrier IP interpretato dalla telco monopolista di un paese culturalmente arretrato ma pieno di soldi. Triste e imbarazzante.
- Proposal 2008-06: Use of Final /8: come gestire gli ultimi IP v4 rimasti?
- The Very Last IPv4 Allocations, Some Concerns About Perceived Unfairness: come sopra.
- IXes and the history of Internet in Europe: veloce introduzione al peering in Europa.
- LINX Report to EIX at RIPE 57: fornirà circuiti GE e 10GE tra i propri POP sulla propria infrastruttura DWDM.
- IEEE802.3ba 40 and 100GE update: è pronta la prima bozza dello standard. Tutti i PHY standardizzati fino ad ora usano 4 o 10 canali paralleli a 10 o 25 Gbps (eventualmente in un qualche WDM).
- New MIX datacenter: come il MIX ha aumentato lo spazio, la ridondanza e i costi.
- Port Security @ MIX: tentativi di venire incontro agli afferenti più incapaci hanno causato problemi agli altri.
- A Versatile Platform for DNS Metrics with its Application to IPv6 Penetration: peccato che sia in Python. Fare le query è facile, interpretare i risultati oltre un conteggio banale lo è molto meno.
- ICANN and IANA Update: trust anchor provvisori e altro, ccTLD in caratteri non latini.
- Signing the Root: sottili differenze nelle procedure proposte per firmare la root zone.
- Automated Network Configuration: come fare scalare la gestione di una grande rete (per iniziare, occorre scriversi gli strumenti adatti).
- Global IPv6 statistics - Measuring the current state of IPv6 for ordinary users: una analisi intelligente da Google.
- A strategy for IPv6 adoption: cautela ma decisione.
