Getting big changes in Debian
We used to be able to introduce new features distribution-wide. Many years ago the debian-policy mailing list was used to discuss new features, and every policy violation had to be fixed by maintainers.
Nowadays the developers who can still be bothered to post to debian-policy can only fight about which current practices are uncontroversial enough that they can be documented.
Does anybody remember the old times? When did the policy process change silently? How did it happen?
